With Halloween knocking on your door in a few weeks, we thought it would be fun to find out whether your cleaning products are TRICKING or TREATING you. But what do we mean by that?
Well, if you’re cleaning with conventional cleaning products you may want to think twice about using them because they can contain toxic ingredients—something we consider as tricking you. Don’t believe us? Check out their labels, which are required by law to indicate when the products contain harmful ingredients, ranging from “Caution,” “Warning,” to “Danger.” Toxic chemicals in conventional cleaners can be immediate problems—causing skin rashes, breathing problems, chemical burns or watery eyes—or long term hazards causing cancer, compromised immune systems, and more.
But if you’re using eco-friendly cleaning products like those we offer, then we consider them to be treating you because they are not endangering the health of you, your family, your pets, or the environment. So grab your flashlight and let’s go door to door (or cabinet to cupboard) to find out!
All-purpose cleaner
Trick?
Some all-purpose cleaners contain sudsing agents that can react with nitrites to form carcinogens your skin can absorb. Your skin also easily absorbs nerve-damaging butyl cellosolve which is present in some cleaners. Your lungs can be hurt by fumes from ammonia-containing cleaners. And bleach is highly caustic and should never be mixed with any product containing ammonia or acids, or toxic gases will result. Yikes!

Glass cleaner
Trick?
Some glass cleaners contain the nerve-damaging butyl cellosolve and many contain ammonia, which can irritate your lungs and release toxic gases if accidentally mixed with cleaning products that contain chlorine.

Oven cleaner
Trick?
Many oven cleaners contain lye and sodium hydroxide which can burn your skin and eyes. And aerosol spray oven cleaners can easily be inhaled into your lungs.

Trick?

Some contain sulfates which can trigger asthma attacks, and many contain sodium hydroxide, bleach, or phosphoric acid which irritates lungs and burns eyes and skin.
