How Does Cleaning for a Reason Support Cancer Patients in Their Time of Need?

by Amy Sardone on Oct 11, 2024
October is a month dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer, but it also serves as a reminder of the numerous challenges faced by individuals battling all types of cancer. As the Owner and CEO of Speed Cleaning, I want to take this opportunity to highlight an incredible organization that is making a meaningful impact in the lives of those affected by cancer: Cleaning for a Reason. What is Cleaning for a Reason?  Founded in 2006, Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit organization that connects cancer patients with professional cleaning services across the United States and Canada. The mission is simple yet powerful: to provide free house cleaning services to individuals undergoing treatment for cancer. The organization recognizes that battling cancer is not just a physical fight; it can also be emotionally and mentally taxing. Cleaning for a Reason aims to alleviate some of the burdens by offering a helping hand, allowing patients to focus on their recovery. Why Cleaning Matters  When facing the challenges of cancer treatment, maintaining a clean home can often feel overwhelming. Patients may be dealing with fatigue, side effects from treatment, and the emotional toll of their diagnosis. A cluttered or dirty home can add to their stress, making recovery even more difficult. By providing free cleaning services, Cleaning for a Reason helps create a more welcoming and supportive environment for those in need. How Does It Work?  Cleaning for a Reason partners with local cleaning companies, to provide these essential services. Once a patient is referred to the organization, they are connected with a cleaning service in their area. The organization covers the cost of two cleanings, each lasting up to two hours, allowing patients to enjoy a clean and sanitized space without the financial burden. Speed Cleaning's Involvement   Cleaning for a Reason was founded by Debbie Sardone, one of the owners of Speed Cleaning, who recognized the need for support among cancer patients facing the challenges of maintaining a clean home during their treatment. Since its inception, the organization has grown significantly and is now an official charity of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association with over 10,000 cleaning company memberships. This partnership has expanded Cleaning for a Reason's reach, allowing even more cleaning professionals to join the mission of providing free cleaning services to those in need. Together, they are ma At Speed Cleaning, we are proud to support Cleaning for a Reason. By sponsoring this organization, we contribute to a cause that aligns with our values of compassion and community service. We believe that everyone deserves a clean and healthy living environment, especially those facing significant health challenges.   Through our partnership, we aim to raise awareness of Cleaning for a Reason and encourage others in the cleaning industry to join the mission. Every donation and partnership helps ensure that cancer patients receive the assistance they need during one of the most challenging times in their lives.  How You Can Help While Cleaning for a Reason provides invaluable services, the organization relies on community support to sustain its efforts.  Here are some ways you can help:   Spread the Word: Share information about Cleaning for a Reason with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people know about this organization, the more support they can receive.   Donate: If you have the means, consider making a donation to Cleaning for a Reason. Your contributions will go directly toward providing free cleaning services for cancer patients.   Volunteer: If you’re part of a cleaning service, consider partnering with Cleaning for a Reason to offer your services. It’s a rewarding way to give back to the community and help those in need.   Encourage Patients to Reach Out: If you know someone currently battling cancer, let them know about Cleaning for a Reason. They may benefit from the services provided by this organization.  This October, as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let us not forget the broader fight against all types of cancer. Cleaning for a Reason is making a significant impact in the lives of those affected by cancer, and we can all play a part in supporting their mission.  Together, we can help create cleaner, healthier living spaces for cancer patients, allowing them to focus on what matters most—their recovery. Thank you for supporting Cleaning for a Reason!  Warm regards,  Amy Sardone, PhD Owner/CEO

Are Cotton Cloths the Superior Choice for Cleaning Over Paper Towels?

by Amy Sardone on Oct 11, 2024
As the Owner and CEO of Speed Cleaning, I’m often asked about the best materials to use for cleaning, especially in sensitive areas like the bathroom. One common myth suggests that paper towels are the most sanitary option, particularly around toilets. However, the science tells a different story. Let’s dive into the facts about cotton cloths versus paper towels and why switching to cotton can be a smarter choice for both your wallet and the environment. The Myth: Paper Towels Are More Sanitary The belief that paper towels are superior for cleaning surfaces, especially in the bathroom, stems from their disposable nature. Many people think that using paper towels eliminates the risk of spreading germs since you can throw them away after a single use. However, this perspective overlooks the actual science of cleaning and sanitation. While it’s true that paper towels can reduce the transfer of germs to some extent, they often lack the effectiveness needed for thorough cleaning. When you wipe a surface with a paper towel, it can leave behind lint and particles, which can contribute to a false sense of cleanliness. Additionally, if the surface is particularly dirty, a paper towel can smear the mess rather than fully removing it. The Facts: Cotton Cloths Are a Practical and Sanitary Choice  1.  Sanitization: The science behind effective cleaning lies in the ability to remove dirt and kill germs. When using cotton cloths, you can easily wash and sanitize them. By washing your cloths with hot water and a good detergent, you can effectively eliminate germs, including those commonly found in bathrooms. Cotton cloths can withstand high temperatures, making them suitable for thorough cleaning. 2. Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective: Using cotton cloths reduces waste compared to paper towels. An average household can go through several rolls of paper towels in a month, contributing to environmental waste. In contrast, cotton cloths are durable, reusable, and can last for years when properly cared for. This not only saves you money in the long run but also helps minimize your ecological footprint. 3. Better Cleaning Performance: Unlike paper towels, cotton cloths—especially when damp—are more effective at picking up dirt and grime. Their absorbent nature allows them to hold onto moisture and cleaning solutions better than paper towels. This leads to a deeper clean, especially when tackling stubborn stains or residues around the toilet and sink. 4. Versatility: Cotton cloths can be used for various cleaning tasks beyond the bathroom. From dusting to wiping down kitchen surfaces, having a set of reusable cotton cloths can streamline your cleaning process. You can designate specific cloths for different areas, ensuring that germs don’t cross-contaminate. Choose Wisely for a Cleaner Home While the cleaning industry has historically been split on the best material to use, the science is clear: cotton cloths are a superior choice for cleaning, particularly in the bathroom. They offer the benefits of sanitization, environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and better cleaning performance.  If you're still on the fence about making the switch from paper towels to cotton cloths, consider investing in high-quality cleaning cloths designed for durability and efficiency. At Speed Cleaning, we promote the use of reusable products as part of a sustainable cleaning regimen. By choosing cotton cloths, you’re not just cleaning your home; you’re also contributing to a healthier planet.  Let’s rethink our cleaning strategies and embrace the power of cotton cloths for a cleaner, more sustainable future! How Can You Effectively Remove Pet Hair From Your Home?

by Amy Sardone on Oct 11, 2024
Pet hair can be a delightful reminder of our furry friends, but it can also become a persistent problem in our homes. Whether it's embedded in carpets, stuck on furniture, or floating through the air, managing pet hair is a crucial aspect of maintaining a clean and healthy living space. As the Owner/CEO of Speed Cleaning, I'm excited to share some essential tools and techniques for tackling pet hair effectively.Essential Tools for Pet Hair Removal  Vacuum Cleaners with HEPA Filters: One of the most effective tools for pet hair removal is a vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filter. These vacuums are designed to trap allergens and fine particles, including pet hair, and prevent them from being released back into the air. Look for models with specialized pet hair attachments, such as motorized brushes, which can agitate and lift hair from carpets and upholstery.  Pet Hair Remover Brushes: A pet hair remover brush, especially those with rubber bristles, can be highly effective for removing hair from furniture and upholstery. The rubber bristles create static electricity that attracts pet hair, making it easier to gather and remove. These brushes are handy for quick clean-ups between vacuuming sessions. Lint Rollers: Lint rollers are a convenient and portable option for removing pet hair from clothing, furniture, and other surfaces. The sticky sheets easily lift hair from fabric, and you can simply roll it over the affected areas to pick up the hair.  Microfiber Cloths: Microfiber cloths are excellent for trapping and lifting pet hair from surfaces. Their fine fibers act like tiny magnets, attracting and holding onto hair. Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe down surfaces or dampen it slightly for better results on stubborn hair.  Rubber Gloves: If you're in a pinch, rubber gloves can be surprisingly effective. Simply put on a pair of rubber gloves and rub your hands over the surface you’re cleaning. The friction between the gloves and the fabric will help dislodge and gather pet hair. Techniques for Effective Pet Hair Removal Regular Vacuuming: Frequent vacuuming is essential for managing pet hair. Aim to vacuum high-traffic areas and places where your pet spends the most time at least once a week. This prevents hair from accumulating and becoming embedded in carpets and upholstery.  Use the Right Attachments: Make use of specialized attachments on your vacuum cleaner, such as the pet hair brush or upholstery tool, to effectively remove hair from furniture and other surfaces. These attachments are designed to reach into fibers and lift hair that a regular vacuum nozzle might miss.  Wipe Down Surfaces: For surfaces like countertops and hard floors, use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe away pet hair. The moisture helps the cloth grab and hold onto the hair, making cleanup more efficient.  Clean Pet Bedding Regularly: Wash your pet's bedding and blankets regularly to reduce the amount of hair that ends up around the house. For non-washable items, use a vacuum cleaner or pet hair remover brush to keep them hair-free.  Air Purifiers: Consider using an air purifier with a HEPA filter in rooms where your pet spends a lot of time. This will help capture airborne pet hair and dander, improving overall air quality in your home. By incorporating these essential tools and techniques into your cleaning routine, you can effectively manage pet hair and maintain a clean, comfortable home. Regular upkeep and the right equipment make all the difference in ensuring that pet hair doesn't take over your living space. Happy Cleaning! Amy Sardone, PhDOwner/CEO
How Can You Prepare Your Home for Fall with a September Cleaning Checklist?

How Can You Prepare Your Home for Fall with a September Cleaning Checklist?

by Amy Sardone on Oct 11, 2024
As the days grow shorter and the leaves start to turn, it’s the perfect time to prepare your home for fall. A thorough cleaning not only makes your space more comfortable but also helps you enjoy the season without the stress of clutter and disorganization. To make this task easier, use a combination of the Speed Cleaning method, Clutter Control method, and Spring Cleaning techniques. Here’s a detailed September cleaning checklist to get your home ready for autumn. Embrace the Speed Cleaning Method  The Speed Cleaning method is all about efficiency and effectiveness. It emphasizes tackling cleaning tasks in a systematic and speedy manner, focusing on high-traffic areas and high-impact tasks. Start by setting a timer for 15-minute intervals and focus on one task at a time. For example, dust and wipe down surfaces in each room, starting with the most frequently used areas like the living room and kitchen. Move swiftly from task to task, ensuring that every corner of your home is addressed without feeling overwhelmed. Clutter Controlled!  Fall is a great time to reassess your belongings and declutter your home. The Clutter Control method helps you create a more organized living space by systematically sorting and reducing unnecessary items. Begin by focusing on one area at a time, such as closets or drawers. Use the "Four-Box Method": label four boxes as "Keep," "Donate," "Sell," and "Trash." As you go through your belongings, sort items into these boxes. This method helps you make quick decisions and ensures that you address every item. Remember, a decluttered space not only looks better but also makes cleaning more manageable. Incorporate Spring Cleaning Techniques While spring cleaning is traditionally associated with warmer months, incorporating its principles in your fall preparation can make a big difference. Spring cleaning focuses on deep cleaning and organizing tasks that often get overlooked. Start by addressing areas like baseboards, ceiling fans, and behind appliances. Use a high-quality cleaner like Speed Cleaning’s Red Juice to tackle tough grime and build-up, ensuring that every surface is refreshed for the new season. This approach helps maintain a clean and healthy environment throughout the fall and winter months. Focus on Seasonal Tasks  In addition to the methods mentioned above, there are specific tasks to tackle as part of your fall preparation. These include:  Cleaning Windows and Screens: Remove dirt and dust that has accumulated over the summer. Use Blue Juice and a microfiber cloth to achieve streak-free results.  Checking and Replacing HVAC Filters: Ensure that your heating system is ready for cooler weather by checking and replacing air filters. This improves air quality and efficiency.  Preparing for Fall Allergies: Dust and vacuum regularly to reduce allergens. Consider using Speed Cleaning’s Pet Oops to address any pet-related odors and allergens.  Organizing Fall and Winter Gear: Store summer items and bring out fall and winter clothing. Ensure that jackets, scarves, and boots are clean and ready for use. Final Touches  Once you’ve completed the major tasks, take a few moments to add some cozy fall touches to your home. Arrange seasonal decorations, such as pumpkins and autumn leaves, and switch to heavier, warmer linens and throws. These final touches help create a welcoming and seasonal atmosphere in your home.  By following this September cleaning checklist and incorporating the Speed Cleaning method, Clutter Control method, and Spring Cleaning techniques, you’ll prepare your home for fall in no time. Enjoy the crisp autumn air and the comfort of a clean, organized space! Happy Cleaning! Amy Sardone, PhDOwner/CEO
