5 Tips for How to Get Rid of Pet Odor and Stains in Your Home

by Amy Sardone on Aug 07, 2024
Having a pet can be wonderful but frustrating when it comes to their odors and stains. Learn how to get rid of pet odor and stains with these five tips. Despite your best cleaning efforts, does your house still smell of your pet? Animals have complex scents that do not always break down with the normal household cleaning methods. If you want your property to remain clean and tidy, then you need to know how to clean it properly.  With just a few tips, your house will seem like its only inhabitants are human. Below, we tell you how to get rid of pet odor fast.   1. Vacuum Regularly: The first step is to vacuum regularly. This may require you to do it at least once a day depending upon the animal you have. Even short-haired animals that do not let off much hair, can give off follicles and skin that carry their odor.  In addition to doing a vacuum, you will need to maintain your vacuum cleaner itself. Pet hair puts a lot of extra strain on the device, clogging up the nozzle and tanks or bags. Make sure you are checking that it is at full strength, or purchase a designated pet hair vacuum.   2. How to Get Rid of Pet Urine Odor:  One of the strongest and most common causes of pet odor is urine. Unfortunately, it is also a very stubborn smell to remove, and there is not a one size fits all solution. This is because different pets and breeds have individual enzymes in their urine that need to be broken down in specific ways.  The best way is to get specific pet odor removal products that deal with urine. We recommend Speed Cleaning™ Pet "OOPS" that helps to eradicate pet stains and their odors with a powerful enzyme action formulated just for that purpose. It is also effective on pet-food stains and whatever the cat drags in.   3. Maintain Your HVAC System:  The HVAC system in your home is essential to keeping clear and pure air running through the property. If you fail to maintain it, filters and systems become clogged and dirty. This not only makes your system work overtime, costing more money, but it also results in dirty air being pumped into your home.  If that air is down to pet odors and hair blocking systems, then you will be constantly breathing in dirty air. Make sure you routinely replace your filters.  4. Wash Fabrics: That Your Pet Uses When we rid the home of pet stains and odors, we often go for the surfaces that we will be using in our day to day life. However, the areas designated to your pet can also give off scents. Make sure you are washing beds and blankets regularly.  5. How to Get Rid of Pet Odor From Litter Trays: Cat urine is a powerful scent and one that sticks. Even when a litter tray is cleaned and the litter is replaced, scents will still cling to the bottom and sides. Make sure you fully clean the tray regularly with bleach or the more pet-safe Speed Cleaning™ Red Juice and make sure it is rinsed well before replacing the litter.  Clean Regularly  As well as all the tips above, make sure you do general cleaning regularly. Knowing how to get rid of pet odor from specific places is only half of the battle. Hairs and dirt from pets will accumulate everywhere, including the regular places that need cleaning.   Not sure where to begin?  Speed Cleaning™ offers a variety of cleaning kits designed to help you get started with everything you need to stay on top of your cleaning chores.

Surprise! You've got unexpected guests! Don't be SCARED - Speed Cleaning to the rescue!

by Amy Sardone on Aug 07, 2024
For many of us, the arrival of unexpected guests causes heart rates to race and blood pressure to rise - but it doesn't have to scary! As the crisp autumn winds usher in the season of pumpkins, costumes, and Halloween delights, there's another aspect of fall that might send shivers down your spine - the arrival of surprise guests! But fear not, because at Speed Cleaning, we've got you covered. This newsletter is your guide to making your home a welcoming haven for unexpected visitors, without the stress and spookiness. Discover how to use our time-tested Speed Cleaning method to get your house ready for guests in a flash, so you can focus on the treats, not the tricks, this Halloween season. Read on for expert insights and a dash of seasonal fun! Has this ever happened to you? You get a phone call during the busy holiday season that friends are in your part of town and want to stop by. With their thoughtful heads up, you have thirty minutes to dash through your home and prepare it for visitors. Here are some tips on how to whip your house into shape before they arrive.  First things first—decide which rooms get priority. Are your guests going to be hanging out in the living room or are they going to be clustered around your kitchen for a more casual visit? Focus on the room that they’ll be spending the most time in. Strap on your cleaning apron and get started.  If you’ve been following the rules of Clutter Control, you shouldn’t have a lot of items to pick up. Everything has a place, and whenever you use something, be sure to put it back into its rightful place. If the clock is ticking, you can sweep every visible item into a laundry basket to deal with after they leave, then stash the basket in your bedroom.  Be sure to give the bathroom a once-over as well. This is where your speed cleaning training kicks into gear. Wipe the mirror from top to bottom and clean as efficiently as possible. Check to be sure the toilet is sparkling and the sink is clean. Make sure that there are fresh towels for your guests to use to dry their hands and a new bar of soap or plenty of soap in the dispenser.  Giving the entryway a quick vacuum is a great idea, since that’s probably where the most grime has accumulated since your last clean. Slurp up the dirt and quickly cover other carpeted areas that might be seen. If you have time to spare, pull out that batch of cookie dough you’ve been nibbling on and throw some cookies into the oven. You’ll be sure to lure everyone into the kitchen for a cozy treat if they smell those baking when they walk in the door. You can do this! Speed through the cleaning and enjoy your guests!
It's Time to Dust!

Cleaning Tips

It's Time to Dust!

by Amy Sardone on Aug 07, 2024
Would your house pass the white glove test? Dust is everywhere. It is also the most visible sign of a house in need of a good cleaning.  While it may seem impossible to keep your home entirely dust free, dusting is a critical component of any house cleaning regimen.  Dusting a home is akin to detailing a car and requires the right tools, patience and consistency. The Chemistry of Household Dust What is dust?  And in the "I didn't need to know that" category, dust is made up of a plethora of contaminants including dead skin cells, hair, dust mites, dirt, pollen, clothing fibers, bacteria - just about anything that can enter your home via the air, your clothes, shoes, etc. Dust can be airborne and can accumulate on just about any surface in your home. The Benefits of Regular Dusting Beyond the obvious visible signs of cleanliness around your home, regular dusting provides many benefits to the health and welfare of your family.   Reducing dust in your home also reduces allergens, bacteria and mold throughout your home.  Additionally, a clean home attracts less pests and helps reduce the spread of germs including common bacteria and viruses. Perhaps less obvious is the benefit to your mental health.  Ever lose sleep, tossing and turning, as you think of all the chores you've put off for another day?  Regular dusting gives you the satisfaction of knowing your home is clean, safe and healthy, thus eliminating at least one source of stress. How Often Should You Dust? The short answer is: it depends. Speed Cleaning™ author Jeff Campbell explains, "There is no set time for the number of days you wait between dusting, vacuuming and cleaning. Each house and its occupants are different. Where you live is also important. If you live in the country, you may have twice the amount of dust as people i the city." In any event cleaning is based on needs rather than on a calendar. Develop a schedule that suits your home and satisfies your sense of cleanliness. To minimize the health risks of dust, most people dust common areas at least once a month and do a thorough deep clean every three to six months.  During seasons when you tend to leave doors and windows open for the fresh air or if you have pets, you may need to dust more frequently. What is the Best Method of Dusting? As with any house cleaning process, always work top to bottom.   It is also best to start in a particular place and steadily work your way around the room (either clock-wise or counter-clockwise) to make sure you don't miss any spots.  Let gravity help your cleaning process and always finish dusting by thoroughly vacuuming the room. What are the Best Tools for Dusting?Speed Cleaning™ Dust Buster Kit[/caption] In most instances, all you need is a damp cloth or microfiber cleaning cloth and a dusting wand or feather duster. We're obviously fans of the hand-washable Speed Cleaning™ Microfiber Dusting Wand that attaches to the Speed Cleaning™ VersaPole that helps you reach just about any place in your home, high or low. If you have wood furniture, you can reduce dust build-up and preserve the life of your furniture with a premium furniture polish. Take your dusting to the next level with a high quality vacuum with HEPA exhaust filtration. Dusting:  One Simple Way to Make Your Home Happier and Healthier Think of dusting as the quickest, easiest way to keep your home not only looking cleaner, but making it healthier too!  With the right mindset and a consistent approach, you'll sleep better knowing your home is clean and breathe better because it is healthier. And be sure to check out all of the Speed Cleaning™ dusting products designed to help you clean like the Pros.
