How Realtors Can Sanitize Their Listings

During the height of the COVID19 pandemic, I got to visit with some of the nation’s leading realtors and real estate reporters about sanitizing homes and keeping buyers and sellers safe.  Now more than ever,  it’s important to properly clean and sanitize before and after showings. It’s not just important to keep buyers and sellers safe but it’s also important to make sure those buyers feel safe too.   Cleaning and disinfecting alone is not enough to put people at ease, they need to see, hear, and feel that the home-seller has gone the extra mile to keep them safe during the showing.

I continually observe individuals and businesses using improper techniques while attempting to clean and disinfect during the COVID19 crisis. It is for this reason that I created the Safe Rule Of 3 to teach people three very simple but critical rules anyone can follow to properly clean and disinfect a home, office, restaurant, etc.   Read those rules here.

It’s also important to know the difference between all-purpose cleaners and disinfectant cleaners, when preparing a home to show. All-purpose cleaners remove, disinfectants kill.  You remove dirt, grime, fingerprints, and crumbs from a surface with a regular all-purpose cleaner (my fave of course is Red Juice).  Once a surface has been cleaned, you use a disinfectant to kill germs, viruses, and bacteria.

One way to put buyers at ease during a showing is to have a visible checklist showing all the high-frequency touchpoints that have been cleaned with disinfectant before the showing.  Consider placing the checklist, and hand sanitizer on a small table inside the front door.
