Spring cleaning made safe and easy

Spring is blooming in the trees outside my window. It’s a gorgeous time of year (except for all the pollen!) but it’s also a reminder to whip your home into shape with a deep spring cleaning so that you can set yourself up for faster maintenance cleanings every week or so. Here are some tips to making your spring cleaning safe and easy this year.

Safety first

Be safe! You’re concentrating hard on your cleaning, but don’t forget to be aware of your surroundings. Don’t back up without knowing who or what is behind you. Don’t bend over in front of a door because someone could swing it open and knock you on the head. Be especially careful when you’re looking up as you’re working, like when you’re scanning for spiderwebs on the ceiling. It’s easy to get so wrapped up in your quest that you walk smack-dab into something or someone.

If you drop something made of glass, get out of the way and suppress your instinct to grab at the falling object. Nothing’s worth getting cut by glass. Use caution when reaching under couch cushions with your hands. Don’t hang out of windows while supporting your weight with one hand. Be careful around slippery wet surfaces. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands, and take a fresh-air break every once in awhile.

Tools you need

I could list everything but the kitchen sink here, so instead I’ll focus on just what’s absolutely essential. These are the top 5 tools you need for spring cleaning:

Major areas of focus

Keep a checklist of all the areas that need to be cleaned that you don’t normally tackle. That includes windows (interior and exterior), ceilings, walls, floors, carpets. We’ve got a great in-depth article on how to clean windows you should check out. And we always recommend reading our complete ebook on Spring Cleaning tips.

Ready, set, go!

Strap on your cleaning apron and have some fun! First stop, decluttering and organizing. Put things away so that you have as clear a space as possible to clean. Then grab your Red Juice and Blue Juice and hit the bathrooms and kitchen for a deep clean. Don’t forget to dust! Once all of the dust is settled on the floor, get out your vacuum and hoover it away.

Happy cleaning and happy spring!
