Today (April 22) is Earth Day. To honor the healthy cleaning practices that we promote every day, we’re sharing a list of tips from our friends at the American Cleaning Institute. Try these simple changes and make a difference to the planet one wash load at a time!
- Wash your clothes in cold water to save energy, prolong the life of your clothes, and help the planet. 90% of the energy used by washing machines goes into heating the water. Check your labels to see if you can wash your clothes in cold.
- Finished with a plastic bottle of some type of cleaning product? Recycle it!
- Don’t pre-rinse your dishes for the dishwasher. It wastes water, and you don’t need to do this step with today’s newly formulated dish detergents. Also, only run your dishwasher when it’s full.
- Stop grabbing plastic shopping bags when you’re out and about, but bring your own. You can buy canvas reusable ones, or start saving the ones you get at the store for reuse another few times.
We hope you have a happy and healthy Earth Day celebration today by reducing, reusing, and recycling.
