During Debbie’s most recent appearance on the north Texas ABC-affiliate show Good Morning Texas, she showed viewers a space-saving method of packing a suitcase inspired by the international best-selling book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo.
The KonMarie method of cleaning and tidying up translates well when it comes to packing for a trip, keeping the contents organized and placed so that just about every item is visible. No more digging around for that blue camisole or pink scarf! Here are Debbie’s tips:
- Stack instead of layer so that you can easily see what’s in your suitcase at a glance. That means put one item in front of the other as you pack rather than on top.
- This is achieved by folding (forget rolling) each similarly sized item to approximately the same size; a final fold into thirds or quarters results in a compact yet flat packable item.
- Take the time to fold each item properly so that it’s as wrinkle-free as possible when you want to wear it – it’ll be worth the time.
- Stack the largest (longest) items in the suitcase first, adding the narrower pieces as you fill the suitcase. This will create a nice pocket of space for very small items like socks and underwear.
