It is very easy to let some cleaning duties slide during a nice, relaxing summer vacation. But now that school is almost back in session, it’s time to whip things into shape! The best way to start the school year with an organized home is to have a plan. Let’s take a look at a few things that will help you have a clean, smooth transition into the fall semester.
- Make a plan. What needs to get done around the house? Things like decluttering, organizing, and a thorough clean should be on that list.
- Declutter. Start to put away summer items…pool toys, summer clothes, piles of things you never got to this summer, etc. If it is a summer item that hasn’t been touched all summer, donate it, recycle it, or throw it out.
- Organize. Is there a pile of tennis shoes and flip flops by the front door? Grab an empty basket and put the shoes used most often there by the door. Other shoes should be put away in closets, out of sight. Set aside a place for papers and other things brought home from school that would otherwise end up spread out all over the kitchen.
- Thorough, end-of-summer clean. Kids going in and out, windows left open to let in fresh air, and allergens at their peak means that lots of dust, dirt, and allergens are being let into the home. Carpets and upholstery will need a good clean. The best thing to do with carpets and upholstery is a steam clean and a thorough vacuuming. We recommend the Vapamore Steam Cleaner as an excellent household item that will come in very handy. Follow this up with a really good vacuuming to get rid of any bacteria and dust mites you will have just killed with the steamer. The Henry Deluxe canister vacuum is lightweight, easy to use, and extremely efficient. Besides, he’s just so cute!
Follow our plan and stick to it and you will be happy and ready for the back to school frenzy.
